An Italian painter and sculptor, Amedeo Modigliani led a life surrounded by artists in the early 1900s; his work shows a natural progression dictated by where he was emotionally during that period. Shown here in the full-color "Mario," Modigliani enjoyed making a study of the human figure. Dressed in a fine black suit, coat, and hat, a man sits posed in chair; his legs crossed, elbow resting calmly on the back of the chair, he appears to be contemplating the artist who is contemplating him - a curious face of a mysterious stranger.
