Born in the state of Washington, Steven N. Meyers went to college in Texas. After college he returned to the Seattle area, where he has worked at several local hospitals and is currently an MRI technologist. Meyers has always liked photography, and briefly considered it for a career, but got started as an artist by taking x-ray photos of everyday objects as he worked in medical environments. The d

Steven Meyers got started selling his flower photographs through a street vendor in New York City. He next created a website that generated publicity and he now does three or four shows per year. Meyers is carrying on an artistic tradition that was first started over seventy years ago, called radiographic art. He uses carbon ink on rag paper to print his images and it sometimes takes up to 50 attempts to get the image he wants. His use of close-up photography gives an intimate look to the intricacy of the flower or subject he is x-raying. Each has an ethereal tinted beauty that allows you to appreciate the interior and exterior of Mother Nature’s translucent allure. Many think the photographs are drawings because they are ‘positive’ images or dark images on a light background. The overall effect makes them glow and appear to be lit from within. The stark, specialized technique used by Meyers allows you to see the inner beauty and pattern of the subject that is inherent in nature. Meyers is one of the few radiographic artists in the world and he intends to ensure that this specialized photography is here to stay. His use of x-rays, rather than light, brings a unique look to the unusual floral radiography and his black and white images seem tinted with pale colors. The central focus of the picture is concentrated on the intricate pattern of the petals or leaves, instead of the overall image.Meyers publishes his photos as posters so that everyone can afford them. He plans to continue to look at new and creative subjects including larger prints and abstract subjects. His work can be found at retailers around the United States.« see less
