Born in 1963 in Liverpool, England, Annora Spence began her schooling at Liverpool Polytechnic studying printed textiles and earned her Masters degree at Birmingham Polytechnic. Spence's recent paintings have included interior studies, making some of her subjects larger than life, thus challenging the viewer and inspiring more of her innate humor. Spence uses a variety of media with colors that range from warm and rich to delicate and pale. Her work continues to have a narrative quality with eccentric characters and comic situations. She often includes animals in her art including her own dog, Ted. Even though no longer with her, Ted still continues to inspire her. Spence's style has developed to a technique of building layers of texture and tone, rich in color from pale and subtle to rich and bold. Her subjects have a quaintness reflecting her sense of humor. She has been making silk-screen prints since 1994 and her exhibitions are sold out in London and elsewhere. Her art has expanded to etchings and more recently she has transitioned her subjects from two to three dimensional bronze sculptures. Residing on the English south coast, Spence now focuses on her own painting and artwork. Spence continues to exhibit worldwide and has her studio in England where she continues to paint her extremely collectible humorous contemporary art. Much of her inspiration is gathered from her extensive travels throughout Asia and Europe where characters and situations are recreated on canvas. Her work can be found in private collections and at galleries and art retailers around the world. « see less
