The soulful postures and luscious colors of three African American musicians are deliciously exaggerated in Justin Bua's oil painting entitled "Jazz Trio". The purple-shirted piano player sits and faces out from the foreground, one shoulder and one wrist lifted in expression. His baggy eyes look out under a crooked hat and over a smoking cigarette. The green-jacketed trumpet player leans back as his cheeks bulge over a short and tidy goatee. Behind him, the stand-up bass violin nearly hides the bass player. The musical instrument's body is hugely exaggerated and its neck bends to accommodate the man's long-fingered hand. Light and shadow turn the black and brown players to gold and lend the painting as soulful a feeling as the music it portrays.
